How-To Home Makeover on a Budget

I know a lot of you may have been redecorating your spaces to feel more home and a sense of security since Covid-19 has affected our day-to-day lives. You may have even been asking yourself, “am I a little frustrated with my home?” or “am I appreciating my home?” These are both valid questions.

I completely understand, as a mom, the desire to create an inviting, warm and cozy home where the family wants to spend quality time connecting and making lasting memories. It feels essential to me.

So, I would love to share with you some tips on how I started my very own home makeover during this time.

Tip #1 - Paint Even if it Scares You

Color is a powerful way to influence your mood. It can perform a multitude of roles and can affect your emotions, energy level, and sense of order. We chose Sherwin Williams Naval and SW Canvas Tan to promote a soothing feel in our home. Also, we refreshed our baseboards and wainscotting with SW Pure White trim paint.

Tip #2 - Update the Lighting & Replace the Light Bulbs

I recommend 2700k-3000k bulbs because of the warm color temperature. Chandeliers are a brilliant way to add warmth to any room in your home. It is the most affordable way to create a sense of luxury in your home. I just love our orb 6-light chandelier, it’s so simple but yet so elegant.

Tip #3 - Update Your Wall Decor

Art is an inexpensive option to help tell your story, it draws the eyes in and creates balance in your room. I opted to use a 3-piece art gallery to stretch across my large wall to get a full appearance.

Tip #4 - Refresh Your Accent Pillows

Pillows enhance the cozy factor in your space and add a ton of interest. I purchased new pillow covers and reused my inserts.

Tip #5 - Organize It

Getting organized can definitely enhance the way you do life by sorting out the mental clutter. I came across the perfect wall tree, it’s a coat rack, hat rack, bookshelf, and shoe rack all-in-one. It holds 20 pairs of shoes.

Tip #6 - Update Drapery

Remove old drapes and broken blinds from windows to allow natural light to come into the room and replace them with something new. Investing in well-lined curtains is essential they can help you save coins on your electric bill. My heart skipped a beat when I found these beautiful medallion pattern curtains.

Tip #7 - Add Plants

Plants will change your life! Check out our blog: 5 Benefits of Indoor Plants to learn how you can totally benefit from having them around, scientifically speaking. :) I sprinkled them in every room.

Check out a few of our Before & Afters:

(Note: Pay attention to the feel in each comparison.)

Before: feels dark, unbalanced, a ton of negative space

After: bright, a warm and inviting feel, all space is being used to capacity to create balance, a cohesive flow

Before: feels dark, it’s a beautiful setup but the decor elements are drowning in the negative space around it

After: bright, nice pop of color adds interest, thin console, candle holder scones provide balance, the large frameless mirror reflects an immeasurable amount of light in the space, light geometric patterned rug anchors the space, check out the textures

Before: Aye-ye-ye! feels dark, crowded, busy, a lot going on..this right here is a great example that we are not all 1 specific design style. 😄

After: bright, fresh, airy, calm, lighter sofa, lighter, desk, lighter curtains, lighter dining table, an area rug is not really necessary when you have carpet but it’s okay to use as long as it’s the right size, bright chandelier, painted tray ceiling, beautiful greenery & more

Before: I really can’t say anything bad about this wall, it was perfect in this space for many years. We just decided it was time for a change. So we moved it to another place (will share later) .😉

After: A stunning SW Naval painted accent wall draws the eyes in hunti, it’s our show stopper and the ivory carved wood decor complements it well.

As we enter our home now, everything feels so airy, light, and bright. I had so much fun welcoming these trending colors, patterns, and textures into our mixed minimal design. We love our updated modern look, it’s clean and most of all, we Feel Home in it. It is warm, inviting and it energetically supports the atmosphere that I wanted to create for our family.

I hope to have inspired you to start your very own home makeover. The design inspiration usually starts with what you already have.

I believe everyone deserves to Feel Home.
