12 Tips of Holiday Designs

Are you ready to decorate your home for Christmas?

Years ago we shared our 12 Tips of Holiday Designs that my family and I use to help us get our home in ready position for the holidays! We had so much fun decorating for Christmas, taking pictures, and sharing that I decided to write this blog.

The good news is that anyone can do this, whether you live in an apartment, townhome, or single-family home. There are many benefits to decorating at Christmas and we hope to inspire you to use our easy decorating tips to evoke warm holiday cheer.

Here’s a recap for those of you who might’ve missed it and those of you who enjoyed it.

Tip #1 - The More Ornaments the Merrier

Did you know just how versatile ornaments are?

A grouping like these looks amazing in glass hurricanes or displayed in a bowl.

Tip #2 - Must-Have Garland

To set up the eye-catching decor in our entryway we simply used a prelit garland to lay across our driftwood console. You can easily add some pizzazz to your garland by adding decorative picks and colored ornaments just like we did. It helps your holiday color flow cohesively throughout your home. The possibilities are endless, just have fun with it!

Tip #3 - Ribbons Galore

Okay, y'all I love ribbons! So of course, I added these to our tree. The fun fact about ribbons is they kinda go in their own direction once you cut them so it's super easy & fun to install them in your tree and you will get a different design every single time. They single-handedly add so much character to your beautiful masterpiece.

Tip #4 - Don't Forget to Look Up

Those chandeliers need love too!
It was super inexpensive and fun to create the decorative look above my dining room table. I used a bundle of faux tree branches and weaved them throughout my chandelier. For a more dramatic look, go to your local tree farm and ask for some Christmas tree trimmings or you can trim some from the very bottom of your tree and use those instead. Lastly, I took some ornaments and strung them down to increase the appeal.

Tip #5 - Did Someone say Centerpiece

Ok, so who doesn't love centerpieces?

The starting price may stagger around $70 for a good one and increase with the more bells & whistles you fancy. I have a trick even if you're not the crafty type that can save you some coins. Take a little trip to your local craft store to buy some decorative picks. I only purchased a few and wrapped them around the top of my year-round lanterns and inserted some into my pre-lit mercury glass with some pine branches. Also, l placed a few ornaments on the table to complete the festive design.

Tip #6 - Lightly Decorate the Table

When you are decorating the dining room table for Christmas, you want to be able to pass the cranberry sauce! At first sight, the table should be aesthetically pleasing. A crowded table can be quite drab because you may not be able to see the person's face that's sitting across from you. Keep it simple, a little goes a long way.

Tip #7 - Ahaaa Accent Pillows

From season to season I always swap out my accent pillows. The key is to find a print, pattern, or color that you can easily use throughout the year. Remember to recognize the details, redesign within your budget and restructure your home to be loved. Believe it or not, accent pillows in a variety of shapes and sizes make an impact on your overall flow of continuity in your home. Be sure to read our blog How To Pick the Right Size Pillow.

Tip #8 - Yes, Wreaths

Every year we buy fresh wreaths from Home Depot Black Friday sale. I love these wreaths so much because they are very beautiful, cost-effective and they smell wonderful too. I don't really care for the red bow that comes with the wreath, so I swap it out with these large gold glammed-out bows from Wally-World. They give these wreaths so much more pizazz and character. Also, you can achieve this same look by using faux wreaths just remember to re-fluff them.

Tip #9 - Go Ahead and Create that Cute Little Christmas Display

There's nothing like candles, music, or holiday displays to put you in the mood for Christmas. Studies have proven that doing so creates a neurological shift that instantly makes you feel happy! Who doesn't love being happy?!?!

Tip #10 - Decorate Your Mantel

Show your fireplace and mantel some ❤! You can go in any direction with this! We chose fancy glitzy poinsettias to clip onto our monogram burlap stockings and a hefty pre-lit garland with magnolia leaves to style our mantle. The live poinsettias were an easy addition to the floor of the fireplace. They smell wonderful and most of all they purify the air. If you choose to use them, remember to water them frequently and be careful not to put them outside in chilly weather.

Tip #11 - Don’t Forget to Hide the Tree Stand

You would not believe the tons of ideas out there on Pinterest regarding this topic! Even though I have really fallen in love with the wicker tree skirt, we usually hide it with gifts. - Partially;)

Tip #12 - Light It Up with a Candle Display

Anyone who knows me knows how much I love candles! I keep them lit 9 times out of 10! @bathandbodyworks sure knows how to melt a girl's heart with those candle sales! We have been interchangeably using these 3 on display. Cranberry Woods was new to us this year and it didn't disappoint when I lit it! So go ahead and light that festive candle, it will for sure evoke holiday cheer!

As I mentioned earlier these are 12 Tips of Christmas Designs that we embrace in our home. Needless to say...my tips would be very incomplete if I failed to mention the love that I have for these 4-Men in my life especially at Christmas!
