One Room Challenge: WEEK 2 - Illuminate Your Space With Light

ONE ROOM CHALLENGE: WEEK 1 | WEEK 2 (YOU ARE HERE) | WEEK 3 | WEEK 4 | WEEK 5 | WEEK 6 | WEEK 7 | WEEK 8

Have you ever wanted to take your room from average to extraordinary? Are you looking for a way to add an extra layer of pizzazz to your interior design without breaking the bank? If so, then look no further than light. Yes, light! It may sound odd, but light has just as much power as paint when used intentionally. It can be considered as extra color, texture, form, or pattern that adds the perfect finishing touches to level up your space. We said goodbye to the ceiling fan and now we are moving on to new horizons. Here are 3 easy ways you can use light in your home décor.

Utilizing Natural Light

The most obvious way to incorporate light into your home décor is by utilizing natural light—sunlight streaming through windows or skylights. You can maximize the impact of this by painting interior walls in lighter hues, which will make the entire room feel brighter and more inviting. You might even consider adding a mirror opposite of an existing window or skylight to reflect the natural light around the entire room.

Using Artificial Light

Artificial lighting is another great way to add depth and character to any room. Start off by adding layers of lighting in different areas of the room—task lighting for specific tasks like reading or cooking; accent lighting for highlighting artwork or sculptures; and ambient lighting for setting a particular mood in the room (e.g., warm yellow lights versus bright white LEDs). When it comes to choosing bulbs, opt for LED over incandescent options since they require less energy and last longer than traditional bulbs.

Mixing Colors with Light

Color plays an important role in any home décor project, but it doesn’t have to be limited only to paint colors on walls and furniture fabrics. Instead, think about adding color with lights! Mood lighting such as wall sconces and standing lamps are excellent choices since they come in a variety of colors and styles that will fit any budget or design aesthetic. You can also choose colored lightbulbs that can provide subtle shades of blue or pink throughout your space—a great option if you’re looking for something unique that won’t overpower other décor elements in your space.

Lighting isn't just about illuminating dark rooms—it's about creating atmosphere and ambiance within a space that reflects who you are and what kind of environment you want to live in. With a bit of creativity and some strategic planning, you can turn any ordinary room into one with character using nothing more than lights.

Over the summer I had the opportunity to see some impeccable light selections at the Atlanta Market,

BEFORE:

Shortly after we had our home built, my hubby installed ceiling fans in each of the boy’s rooms. Now we are moving on to new horizons because just the right lighting will help set the welcoming and relaxing vibes that we want to achieve in this space.😉

AFTER:

We chose this particular lighting for “Our Journey to Zen project for 3 reasons:

✔ It’s organic and environmentally friendly; I wanted to incorporate an earthy feel with a natural finish.

✔ It has beautiful aesthetics; I have been seeing this chandelier trending all over social media and at the summer market.

✔ I love the shape; curved shapes are important in interior design because they help draw the eye around the room and create a calm feeling.

We love how it turned out!

*Stay tuned as we continue this exciting journey into WEEK 3, we’ll be covering Wall Décor!
