Yay, We Made It! The Meditation Room Has Loaded.

I'm thrilled to reveal this beautiful project to you. This has truly been a labor of love project that soothes my soul. I believe interior design is a powerful tool that heals and my overall goal was to convey it to you on “Our Journey to Zen”. On this 8 week's journey, I prayed and meditated on how to bring my ideas and feelings to reality. I had a deep desire to create a space that would stimulate each God-given sense of ours to emotionally connect to this space with ease. Sight. Sound. Touch. Smell. & Taste. Each piece was intentionally and mindfully curated with thought and care. This space is the epitome of good vibrations. It feels warm, welcoming, relaxing, and sophisticated.

The Reveal

Just in case you missed it, here’s where we started…

The mom in me was so rooting for Georgia Tech but my son had his own plans. After attending 1 year of college he decided that he wanted to pursue a career in logistics. I was so sad when he told me and his father that he was ready to leave the nest, but now I am so excited about how we repurposed his former bedroom into a space that we can all enjoy together when he visits. Thank you so much for following along with me for 8 weeks on “Our Journey to Zen”. I hope you enjoyed our bedroom-to-meditation room transformation. Our 22-year-old son’s reaction was wow, his eyes lit up and he smiled. That melted my heart. After we ate Thanksgiving dinner, we all came upstairs, soaked in the Zen ambiance, talked as laughter filled the air, and relaxed in our new favorite spot. As a family, we're thankful to have this amazing space to relax and restore.

A meditation room can be a great addition to your home, providing a space for peace and relaxation. Here we will take a look at the benefits of having a meditation room.

What is a Meditation Room?

A meditation room is simply a designated space where you can go to relax, meditate, or pray. It can be any size or shape and can include any features that you find relaxing. Often, people choose to include features such as plants, candles, incense, artwork, and comfortable seating. The important thing is that the space feels calming and peaceful to you.

7 Simple Ways a Meditation Room Can Improve Your Mental Health

There are many benefits associated with having a meditation room in the workplace or your home. Some of these benefits include:

1. Improved concentration levels - Having a dedicated meditation room can greatly help to improve one's concentration. This is achieved by reducing external sources of distraction in order to encourage improved focus, as well as improved emotional clarity and mental presence. Calm, soothing music can be played in the background to serve as an auditory reminder for staying in the present moment. The relaxation that is gained from meditating also leads to improved cognitive functioning, which facilitates improved problem-solving skills and more concrete goals.

2. Reduced stress levels - The importance of reducing stress levels in our lives cannot be overstated. Unfortunately, it can become difficult to do so because of the many facets of life that consume our attention and energy. One way to reduce stress levels is to set aside a meditation room in your home or workplace. Having a dedicated space specifically designed for peace and serenity creates an inviting atmosphere that encourages relaxation and reduces anxiety.

3. Increased creativity and productivity - Harnessing the power of mediation can be incredibly beneficial for personal wellbeing and growth, but it can also result in increased creativity and productivity. Having a designated meditation room is an excellent way to create a peaceful and relaxed environment where you can focus more intently on your practices. Rather than spending time searching for the right place to meditate each day, having a designated spot makes it much easier to commit to regular practice. Not only will this help you reach your goals from a mediation point of view, but it will likely increase both creativity and productivity as well - allowing you to unlock new potentials that were previously difficult to find.

4. Reduced noise pollution - A meditation room can significantly reduce the noise pollution in your home. By creating this space, you can significantly lower the amount of ambient noise and create a sanctuary that promotes well-being and inner peace. Additionally, since increased sound levels can be associated with physical and mental fatigue, as well as decreased concentration and productivity, it is clear to see why having a meditation room is so beneficial. Reduced noise pollution from such a room could allow for fewer breaks from work or school and therefore higher productivity overall. Reduced sound levels also make for better sleep quality since the body does not need to block out constant loud noises throughout the night. Clearly, having a meditation room provides many long-term benefits related to lower noise levels.

5. Better air quality - Having a meditation room in the home offers multiple benefits including healthier air quality. The circulation of clean, fresh air can reduce stress and irritability, which can lead to a relaxed and more productive mindset. Additionally, better air quality helps reduce airborne particles from entering your lungs which leads to an improved immune system, especially for those who are prone to allergies or asthma. Furthermore, having an area devoted exclusively to relaxation can help you sleep more deeply and improve overall sleep quality by eliminating distractions that may be present in other parts of the house. Ultimately, having access to a quiet space for daily reflection and relaxation may result in tangible health benefits associated with better air quality.

6. Improved moods - Studies show that having a specific place dedicated to meditation can result in improved moods over time. It has been suggested by mental health professionals that the act of reserving a space specifically for mindfulness or meditation gives individuals the feeling of being in control and focused on self-improvement. By dedicating an area to this purpose, it creates an opportunity for inviting solitude and calming introspection into one's daily routine.

7. Enhanced connectivity with others in the workplace or home setting - Having a dedicated space to meditate in your home can help to create a connection with other family members, spouses, or roommates. Enhanced connectivity in a home setting adds an extra layer of comfort to those who live in the home, as well as providing a sense of closeness when it comes to sharing and practicing relaxation techniques together. Having this central physical reminder of your home’s commitment to finding balance and calmness allows the entire household to be immersed into a greater level of understanding of one another’s needs. By creating this special place together, overall stress levels are reduced and everyone living in the house is more connected through shared routines and experiences.

*Additionally, research has shown that regular meditation can have positive effects on physical health such as reducing the risk of obesity.
